Horsegram Vermicelli (Kollu Semiya) – Cooking Recipes

Horsegram Vermicelli is rich in protein and fiber and can be used to prepare breakfast, lunch, snacks, and healthy dinner recipes.

1. Horsegram Vermicelli Upma

Ingredients

  • Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
  • Onion – 1 medium, chopped
  • Green chilli – 2, chopped
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Water – 400 ml
  • Salt – to taste
  • Oil – 2 tbsp

Method

  1. Soak or cook vermicelli as per package instructions and drain.
  2. Heat oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, and curry leaves.
  3. Add onions and green chillies; sauté well.
  4. Add cooked vermicelli and salt.
  5. Mix gently and serve hot.

2. Horsegram Vermicelli Lemon Semiya

Ingredients

  • Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
  • Lemon juice – 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Peanuts – 2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Oil – 2 tbsp

Method

  1. Cook vermicelli and keep aside.
  2. Prepare tempering with mustard seeds, peanuts, and curry leaves.
  3. Add turmeric and cooked vermicelli.
  4. Mix well and switch off the flame.
  5. Add lemon juice and serve.

3. Horsegram Vermicelli Vegetable Pulao

Ingredients

  • Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
  • Mixed vegetables – 100 g
  • Onion – 1 sliced
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Garam masala – ½ tsp
  • Water – 450 ml
  • Salt – to taste

Method

  1. Sauté onions and ginger-garlic paste.
  2. Add vegetables and cook for 3 minutes.
  3. Add water and bring to a boil.
  4. Add vermicelli and salt.
  5. Cook until water is absorbed.
  6. Serve hot with raita.

4. Horsegram Vermicelli Tomato Bath

Ingredients

  • Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
  • Tomato – 2 finely chopped
  • Onion – 1 chopped
  • Red chilli powder – ½ tsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Salt – to taste

Method

  1. Prepare tempering and sauté onions.
  2. Add tomatoes and cook until soft.
  3. Add spices and salt.
  4. Mix in cooked vermicelli.
  5. Cook for 2 minutes and serve.

5. Horsegram Vermicelli Kheer (Sweet Payasam)

Ingredients

  • Horsegram Vermicelli – 100 g
  • Milk – 500 ml
  • Palm jaggery – 75 g
  • Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
  • Cashews – 10
  • Ghee – 1 tbsp

Method

  1. Roast vermicelli lightly in ghee.
  2. Cook in milk until soft.
  3. Add palm jaggery and cardamom.
  4. Garnish with roasted cashews.
  5. Serve warm.

6. Horsegram Vermicelli Coconut Semiya

Ingredients

  • Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
  • Fresh grated coconut – ½ cup
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Salt – to taste

Method

  1. Cook vermicelli and keep aside.
  2. Prepare tempering.
  3. Add coconut and sauté briefly.
  4. Mix in vermicelli and salt.
  5. Serve hot.

7. Horsegram Vermicelli Vegetable Stir-Fry

Ingredients

  • Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
  • Carrot – 50 g
  • Capsicum – 50 g
  • Cabbage – 50 g
  • Pepper powder – ½ tsp
  • Salt – to taste

Method

  1. Stir-fry vegetables until crisp.
  2. Add cooked vermicelli.
  3. Season with pepper and salt.
  4. Toss well and serve.

8. Horsegram Vermicelli Curd Semiya

Ingredients

  • Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
  • Thick curd – 1 cup
  • Grated carrot – 2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – to taste

Method

  1. Cook and cool the vermicelli.
  2. Mix with curd, carrot, and coriander.
  3. Add salt and temper with mustard seeds if desired.
  4. Serve chilled.

Healthy Horsegram Vermicelli Upma

  1. Boil 1 litre water.
  2. Add 200 g Horsegram Vermicelli and cook for 4–5 minutes.
  3. Drain and rinse lightly.
  4. Prepare tempering with mustard, curry leaves, onion, and vegetables.
  5. Add cooked vermicelli and salt.
  6. Toss and serve hot.
