Horsegram Vermicelli (Kollu Semiya) – Cooking Recipes
Horsegram Vermicelli is rich in protein and fiber and can be used to prepare breakfast, lunch, snacks, and healthy dinner recipes.
1. Horsegram Vermicelli Upma
Ingredients
- Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
- Onion – 1 medium, chopped
- Green chilli – 2, chopped
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Urad dal – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Water – 400 ml
- Salt – to taste
- Oil – 2 tbsp
Method
- Soak or cook vermicelli as per package instructions and drain.
- Heat oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, and curry leaves.
- Add onions and green chillies; sauté well.
- Add cooked vermicelli and salt.
- Mix gently and serve hot.
2. Horsegram Vermicelli Lemon Semiya
Ingredients
- Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
- Lemon juice – 2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Peanuts – 2 tbsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Oil – 2 tbsp
Method
- Cook vermicelli and keep aside.
- Prepare tempering with mustard seeds, peanuts, and curry leaves.
- Add turmeric and cooked vermicelli.
- Mix well and switch off the flame.
- Add lemon juice and serve.
3. Horsegram Vermicelli Vegetable Pulao
Ingredients
- Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
- Mixed vegetables – 100 g
- Onion – 1 sliced
- Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Garam masala – ½ tsp
- Water – 450 ml
- Salt – to taste
Method
- Sauté onions and ginger-garlic paste.
- Add vegetables and cook for 3 minutes.
- Add water and bring to a boil.
- Add vermicelli and salt.
- Cook until water is absorbed.
- Serve hot with raita.
4. Horsegram Vermicelli Tomato Bath
Ingredients
- Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
- Tomato – 2 finely chopped
- Onion – 1 chopped
- Red chilli powder – ½ tsp
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Salt – to taste
Method
- Prepare tempering and sauté onions.
- Add tomatoes and cook until soft.
- Add spices and salt.
- Mix in cooked vermicelli.
- Cook for 2 minutes and serve.
5. Horsegram Vermicelli Kheer (Sweet Payasam)
Ingredients
- Horsegram Vermicelli – 100 g
- Milk – 500 ml
- Palm jaggery – 75 g
- Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
- Cashews – 10
- Ghee – 1 tbsp
Method
- Roast vermicelli lightly in ghee.
- Cook in milk until soft.
- Add palm jaggery and cardamom.
- Garnish with roasted cashews.
- Serve warm.
6. Horsegram Vermicelli Coconut Semiya
Ingredients
- Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
- Fresh grated coconut – ½ cup
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Urad dal – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Salt – to taste
Method
- Cook vermicelli and keep aside.
- Prepare tempering.
- Add coconut and sauté briefly.
- Mix in vermicelli and salt.
- Serve hot.
7. Horsegram Vermicelli Vegetable Stir-Fry
Ingredients
- Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
- Carrot – 50 g
- Capsicum – 50 g
- Cabbage – 50 g
- Pepper powder – ½ tsp
- Salt – to taste
Method
- Stir-fry vegetables until crisp.
- Add cooked vermicelli.
- Season with pepper and salt.
- Toss well and serve.
8. Horsegram Vermicelli Curd Semiya
Ingredients
- Horsegram Vermicelli – 200 g
- Thick curd – 1 cup
- Grated carrot – 2 tbsp
- Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp
- Salt – to taste
Method
- Cook and cool the vermicelli.
- Mix with curd, carrot, and coriander.
- Add salt and temper with mustard seeds if desired.
- Serve chilled.

Healthy Horsegram Vermicelli Upma
- Boil 1 litre water.
- Add 200 g Horsegram Vermicelli and cook for 4–5 minutes.
- Drain and rinse lightly.
- Prepare tempering with mustard, curry leaves, onion, and vegetables.
- Add cooked vermicelli and salt.
- Toss and serve hot.
