Description
A mixture of Ginger and Palm Candy (or Palm Jaggery/Karupatti) is a traditional, nutrient-rich remedy, widely used for its medicinal properties, particularly in South Indian cuisine and Ayurveda. The combination of ginger’s spicy, anti-inflammatory compounds with the iron-rich, unrefined sweetness of palm jaggery provides a natural, warming, and comforting tonic for various ailments.
- Acts as a Natural Expectorant: The ginger-palm mixture helps break down mucus and ease congestion in the throat and chest.
- Soothes Sore Throat: It acts as a soothing agent for irritated throats.
- Warming Effect: The combination generates warmth in the body, which is effective against common cold, flu, and respiratory infections.
- Aids Digestion: It is an excellent post-meal snack or drink, stimulating digestive enzymes and alleviating indigestion and bloating.
- Reduces Gas: It works as a carminative, helping to eliminate gas and relieve gastrointestinal distress.
- Alleviates Nausea: Ginger is highly effective against nausea, motion sickness, and morning sickness.
- Rich in Minerals: Unlike white sugar, palm candy contains high levels of essential minerals, including iron, calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
- Antioxidant Power: Both ingredients are rich in antioxidants, which help reduce inflammation and combat free radicals.
- Fights Anemia: The high iron content in palm jaggery helps to increase hemoglobin levels.
- Menstrual Relief: The mix is often used to relieve menstrual cramps due to the anti-inflammatory properties of ginger.
- Eases Joint Pain: It is believed to help with aches and pain, reducing inflammation in the body.
- Steady Energy Release: As a complex carbohydrate, it provides a steady, sustained boost of energy without the sudden sugar spikes associated with refined sugar.
- Improves Metabolism: Ginger helps in increasing metabolism, which aids in overall energy levels.
- Ginger Palm Tea (Sukku Coffee): Boiled with water, coriander seeds, and sometimes pepper, this is a popular immunity-boosting hot drink.
- Ginger-Jaggery Bites (Goli): A combination of dry ginger, palm jaggery, and sometimes ghee or herbs, used as a daily, chewable remedy for cough and cold.
- Direct Consumption: A small piece of dried ginger-palm jaggery can be eaten after meals.
